o THE HALL OF THE GIANTS
The Lifeguard Room is a setting for receiving guests at royal
events.
e THE KING`S STAIRCASE
The doors at the foot of the staircase lead into the Audience
Chamber and the Council Room.
o THE TOWER ROOM
Tapestries by Skovgaard portray scenes from Danish folk
ballads.
o THE THRONE ROOM
The Throne Room is used by the Queen to receive foreign
ambassadors. From the balcony, Danish Kings and Queens are
proclaimed.
o KING CHRISTIAN IX`S ROOM
The carpet with the royal coat of arms was a gift to the Queen
on the 40th jubilee of her reign from the government and
Parliament.
o THE FREDENSBORG ROOM
In Tuxen`s "Fredensborg Painting" King Christian IX slts next to
Queen Louise. They are often referred to as the "Parents-in-
Law of Europe", because their three sons and three daughters
married into nearly every European royal family.
o KING FREDERIK VI`S ROOM
Eckersberg`s four paintings hung in the Great Hall of the Palace
until the fire in 1884.
e THE VELVET ROOM
This is where guests are presented to the Queen and the royal
family at royal banquets.
o THE CORNER ROOM
The four kings in Tuxen`s large painting are Queen Margrethe`s
father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-
grandfather.
G THE GREAT HALL
The Great Hall can accommodate up to 400 guests for
banquets. state visits and New Year receptions. Bjern
N0rgaard`s modern tapestries were a gift to Queen Margrethe 11
in 2000. They narrate the 1000 years of Denmark`s history,
from Viking times to the present day.

Named after the Swedish kings on horseback in the gallery`s
paintings.
e THE GREEN ROOM
Artists performing at celebrations in the Great Hall use this
room as a backstage facility.
~ THE D1NING HALL
It ís often used as a pantry for events in the Great Hall.
~ THE ABILDGAARD ROOM .
Abildgaard`s paintings hung in the Great Hall of the Palace until
the fire in 1794.
~ THE QUEEN`S STAIRCASE
It is often used as an entrance for events in the Alexander
Room, the Abildgaard Room and the Queen`s Library
~ THE QUEEN`S LIBRARY
Queen Margrethe ll`s book collection. Many of the books date
from the 18th century.
fD THE PRINCESS CHAMBER
Above the doors are reliefs of Copenhagen`s palaces:
Christiansborg Palace before the fire in 1794, Christiansborg
Palace before the fire in 1884 and the present Christiansborg
Palace.
~ THE ALEXANDER HALL
The room is named after the frieze by the Danish sculptor,
Thorvaldsen.lt depicts the entry of Alexander the Great into
8abylon.
G) THE FLORA DANICA CABINET
Since the early 19th century, the royal family has used the
Flora Danica tableware for special occasions. It is painted with
flora from the Danish countryside and manufactured by Royal
Copenhagen.

CHRISTIANSBORG PALACE
PAY A ROYAL VISIT
Christiansborg Palace was the main residence of Danish monarchs
unti11794, when the royal family moved to Amalienborg.
However, even today the roya I family still use large parts of
Christiansborg Palace.
THE ROYAL RECEPTION ROOMS
The Queen uses the magnificent rooms and halls of Christians-
borg Palace for official events such as audiences, banquets and
state visits.
The rooms include: the Throne Room, the Great Hall and the
Dining Hall. They are lavishly decorated with precious materials
and works of art by some of Denmark`s greatest artists.

Every day from 10:00 am to 17:00
(October-April closed on Mondays)
