The Aaakusabashi area has been thriving since1he Edo period as a com-
mercial and traffic center, exploiting the natural wealtn of the Sumida
River. The Tokugawa Shogunate built a gate here called "Asakusa-
Mitsuke" as a cruclal advance guard for the defensa of Edo Castla.
