HIDA FOLK VILLAGE/HIDA NO SATO
Hida no Sato, the Hida Folk Village was opened in 1971 for the
purpose of preserving traditional vernacular houses and
lifestyles, and to pass the preclous cultural heritage down to the
next generation.
The buildings more than 30 were all moved from different parts
of Hida region, including Gassho style thatched roof houses,
shingled roof houses and others.
Various kinds of daily tools and articles are displayed in houses
that make it easy to imagine their life in the old days.
Artisans are working on traditional arts and crafts,
whose great skills and techniques are worth seeing.

National Important Folk Cultural Properties
eWakayama` s House
A valuable piece of folklore. as it
has the characteristics of both the
"steep rafter roof (Gassho style) "
which was original in Shirakawa
and the"hipped gable roof" in
Shohkawa.
@Tanaka` S House
A typical old farmhouse relocated
from near here.
Marks made by using Chona
(Adze) are beautifully remaining
on pillars and floors.
~Taguchi` S House
The owner of this house was the
head of the village for several
qeneratlons. Meetings were. often
held in here, so most of the rooms
were designed to make one big
room as moving the sliding doors.
@lYoshizane` S House
Only this house in the village
avoided collapsing down when the
big earthquake occurred in 1858.
It is said that "the forked pillar"
used in this house prevented it
from a big damage.
